Every Promise Broken | Ashley James

I have been waiting for Whit and Conrad’s book since meeting the characters in Eight Seconds to Ride. On the outside the pair just seem unlikely and very opposite.  And they are, but they are just so well suited to one another.  Their souls are clearly meant for one another, and anyone around them is able to see it. Second chance books aren’t usually my favorite, but James nailed this one.
Whit is the town veterinarian; he is a third generation vet and loves his job and takes pride in being there for Copper Lake animals and their owners.  From the outside it would seem that he is quirky but has it all together.  But on the inside we see that Whit really struggles.  He is neurodivergent and struggles with too many people and some social situations.  On top of that a complicated relationship with his dad. I thought I loved Whit throughout this series – especially the way he reads his friends and supports them.  It seems that he always knew what they needed.  So I was happy to see his friends showed up for him, too. Shooter really surprised me and was 100% there for Whit, in his Shooter way that had us all in stitches.  But he was exactly what Whit needed.

Conrad is as closed off as they come.  He loves to have people on his ranch and opens it up to everyone, but he never really shares much about himself.  He just enjoys being with people- but Conrad is lonely.  Conrad is a person that needs his other half.  And his other half is Whit.  I simply adored how this tough gruff rancher loved Whit.  This is where hearing a character’s innermost thoughts is the literal best because it was so evident to readers that this man adored Whit.  His thoughts alone about the way he loved Whit made me melt.  And when he finally got the nerve to tell Whit.

Together these two are simply made for one another, and there is no one else that would bring out the others strengths, and fill in the gaps where they weren’t as strong.  They could read one another so well, by just looking.  Conrad also had a very unexpected dominant side that was so darn hot.  My goodness these two in the bedroom incinerated my kindle (I am not at all sad about that).  IF you love a book with so much emotion, amazing side characters that make you laugh, moments that make you reach for your tissues and amazing barn steamy times this series and book is a must read for you! I guarantee that you will love Copper Lake as much as I have.  While I am so sad to say goodbye to these characters I know Ashely James has more amazing characters to share with us!
